About 282 Stories

282 Stories is an independent record of a personal challenge to climb every Munro in Scotland and document the complete journey.

The aim is simple: to build a growing collection of real experiences from Scotland’s 282 Munros — one mountain, one journey and one story at a time.

What You’ll Find Here

Each completed hike becomes part of the project.

The site brings together mountain stories, photography, videos and practical information from the routes I have actually walked. As the project grows, individual Munro pages will include my recorded GPX tracks, route details, timings, conditions encountered, equipment used and lessons learned along the way.

The emphasis is on first-hand experience.

Where I publish a route I have walked, I want the information to reflect what actually happened on the mountain rather than presenting an untested route as my own experience.

The 282 Journey

This isn’t a race to complete the Munros as quickly as possible.

The project is intended to develop over several years, across different parts of Scotland, seasons and mountain conditions.

That means the website will develop with it.

Every completed Munro adds another story, another route and another piece of experience. Over time, the aim is to create a record stretching from Munro 1 all the way to Munro 282.

Tested by Experience

There is already excellent professional guidance available for Scotland’s mountains, including mapping, weather forecasts, access information and mountain-safety advice.

282 Stories has a different purpose.

It records what I personally experienced on the mountains I walked — the route I took, what worked, what didn’t, the decisions I made and what I learned.

Where external information is provided for planning or safety, it should complement rather than replace authoritative sources and each walker’s own judgement.

An Independent Project

282 Stories is a personal and independent project.

The stories, photographs, videos and recorded routes published here are intended to build an honest archive of the journey — including successful days, difficult conditions, mistakes, changed plans and occasions when turning back may be the right decision.

Because the mountains aren’t only about reaching the summit.

They are about everything that happens on the way there.

282 mountains. 282 stories. One journey.
